Azure Consulting · Burlington, Ontario

Microsoft Azure consulting for Burlington organizations

Architecture, migration, governance and cost control for Azure environments — designed so the platform stays manageable and predictable two years after the project ends.

What this covers

  • Landing zone design and subscription governance
  • Server and application migration into Azure
  • Azure Site Recovery for disaster recovery
  • Entra ID identity architecture and hybrid join
  • Cost governance, rightsizing and reservations
  • Canada Central and Canada East residency

01Foundations

Most Azure problems are governance problems

Azure environments rarely fail technically. They fail through sprawl: unowned resources, untagged spend and permissions nobody remembers granting.

A landing zone establishes the structure before the workloads arrive — subscription and resource group design, naming conventions, tagging policy, network topology, role-based access control, policy enforcement and cost boundaries. It is unglamorous and it is the difference between an environment you can hand over and one you cannot.

Identity is the second foundation. Entra ID configuration, hybrid join for existing domain-joined devices, conditional access, and privileged identity management determine both security posture and how manageable the environment stays as staff change.

Only then do workloads move. By that point, every resource lands somewhere intentional with an owner, a cost tag and a policy governing what it may do.

03Common projects

Where Burlington organizations start

The four entry points that deliver value without requiring a full migration commitment.

01

Disaster recovery in Azure

Replicate on-premises servers into Azure at low standby cost, with documented and genuinely tested failover. Often the strongest first business case.

02

Retiring an aging server

Rather than buying replacement hardware for another five years, move the workload to Azure and convert a capital purchase into managed operating cost.

03

Azure Virtual Desktop

Centralized desktops for remote, contract or seasonal staff, with data kept in the datacentre rather than on devices in transit.

04

Identity modernization

Move from an on-premises domain toward Entra ID with hybrid join, conditional access and device compliance as the security boundary.

05

Cost remediation

Review and repair an Azure estate that grew organically: rightsizing, orphaned resource cleanup, reservations and enforced tagging.

06

Application hosting

Deploy line-of-business or customer-facing applications on App Service or virtual machines with managed backup, monitoring and scaling.

FAQCommon questions

Questions Burlington organizations ask

Why Azure rather than another cloud platform?

For organizations already invested in Microsoft 365, Windows Server and Entra ID, Azure offers the tightest identity integration, Hybrid Benefit licensing advantages and a single management and security surface. Where those conditions do not apply, we will say so — platform choice should follow the workloads, not the vendor relationship.

How do we stop Azure costs from running away?

Cost drift is a governance problem, not a pricing one. It is controlled with tagging and ownership from day one, budget alerts, rightsizing reviews, auto-shutdown for non-production resources, reserved instances or savings plans for predictable workloads, and Azure Hybrid Benefit applied to eligible licences.

Can Azure host our disaster recovery without a full migration?

Yes, and it is one of the most cost-effective entry points. Azure Site Recovery replicates on-premises servers into Azure, where they stay dormant at low cost and are only spun up during a test or a real failover.

Is our data held in Canada?

Azure operates Canada Central and Canada East regions. Where residency matters for contracts or sector obligations, resources are deployed into Canadian regions and policy is applied to prevent deployment elsewhere.
